Cabbage Potato Curry


Enough for 2-3 people

Ingredients

1/2 coarsely chopped cabbage
1 potato
curry leaves
Black Mustard (Rai)
Green Chillies
Ginger garlic paste
Turmeric
Chilli powder
Coriander Powder
1 tablespoon yogurt
1/2 onion
1 tomato
Hunts Tomato puree

Method

  1. In a container add cabbage, turmeric and water
  2. Microwave it until cabbage is half done (roughly 5-10 minutes)
  3. Microwave the potato until it is cooked (roughly 5-10 minutes)
  4. In a pan heat a little olive oil
  5. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves and green chillies
  6. Fry onions until it is brown then add tomato
  7. Add turmeric, chillie powder and coriander powder and salt
  8. Add ginger garlic paste
  9. Add potato and fry it a bit
  10. Add cabbage
  11. Cover it and let it simmer
  12. Add tomato puree and yogurt and cover it
  13. Serve hot with Roti, rice or naan

A healthy staple food - Daal and Chawal


Daal

Ingredients
1 cup masoor daal (looks orange)
1/4 cup chana daal (looks yellow)
1 clove garlic
cumin seeds
1/2 cut onion
1/2 cut tomato
Shaan daal masala
1 tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp Chilli powder
Green chillies
Fresh lemon juice
Coriander leaves for garnish
Salt to taste

  1. Wash and presoak daal for 5 minutes
  2. In a pan add daal, turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt and water and cook it until daal is fully done
  3. In another pan heat a little olive oil and add cumin seeds
  4. Add garlic, onion and tomato
  5. Add Shaan masala
  6. Fry it until golden brown and then add daal bring it to a boil
  7. Add coriander to garnish
  8. Serve it with any rice of your liking
Another variation is adding spinach to the daal while boiling daal with spices
